Norwich Overview


Norwich is a city with a vast and interesting history with well over 1500 historic buildings and 33 medieval churches (more than any other city in Northern Europe) and historic streets this city is just brimming with history but, also a very interesting and exciting place to live in the present. One of the most iconic pieces of architecture in Norwich is the Cathedral, with the second largest spire in England you will struggle to miss it. The Cathedral is currently home to the Church of England, they currently hold services and other Christian events at the cathedral. Similarly, to the cathedral you have Norwich Castle, built in 1067 the caste was a fortress which has now been turned into a museum. In the museum you will find out about the history of this city and all the trials and tribulations of the people.

Norwich market place is placed just outside of the city hall and boasts bright canopies accompanied by a great mix of stalls selling everything from fruit and veg to clothes. All the food will be locally sourced and is a fantastic place to find some great bargains mixed in with some high-quality products. Norwich has two shopping centres within a few minutes’ walk of each other but both with different shops meaning you will struggle not to find something that is perfect for you. Both shopping centres have restaurants and cinemas making your shopping experiences the best.

Things to do in Norwich


For those who are slightly more adventurous, head over to BeWillDerwood which is an adventure park with obstacle courses that you are able to tackle that are built in the trees. You are able to go on a small boat cruise and find shops and food huts which make it the perfect day out to spend with your friends. Located on the university campus you will find the Sainsbury centre for Visual Arts, here you will find fantastic exhibitions all year round. The centre also boasts a sculpture park where you will see breath taking sculptures from famous artists and university students.

Elm Hill is named as one of Britain’s ‘prettiest’ streets, dating back to 1200AD the cobbled street is and always will be a talking point for the local people. The street gets its name from the Elm trees that date back to the 16th century and still stand today. On the street you will find a book shop, a craft shop and the antique shop which will sell items and services that you will not receive from high street chains. If you are someone who enjoys fantastic views then head to Mousehold Heath, this is a heath that overlooks Norwich. From the tallest point you will be able to see the cathedral, castle and many of the other monuments in the city. You will find several different cinema complexes’ in which you will find the latest blockbusters.

Sport in Norwich


Norwich City FC are a football team in the Championship of English football and they play at Carrow road with over 27 thousand fans getting behind their team every game day. The football club work very closely with the university students making it a great place to go if you are into football and sports. There are a couple of leisure centres in and around the city with golf courses and tennis courts that are open to the public.

Escape Norwich


Norwich has access to a lot of counties in East Anglia, if you head east towards the coast you will come across Great Yarmouth which has a wonderful town with a fantastic beach. Surrounding Great Yarmouth, you have the Broads which is a national park known for its beautiful waterways, wildlife and picturesque landscape.

Transport in Norwich


Norwich is not close to the national motorway network, but it can be accessed via A roads. If you travel along the A11 southbound you will reach the M11 which will grant you access to the motorway network. Coach and train services are available. Norwich airport is just a short 15-minute drive from the city centre.
