Lancaster Overview


Lancaster is one of the oldest cities in the UK with a wide range of historic buildings and venues. The beautiful buildings within the city are excellent examples of Georgian architecture. If you're in Lancaster someday, make sure to visit the Lancaster Castle, the Priory Church of St. Mary and the site of Williamson Park. Those who enjoy art and culture can visit the Lancaster City Museum, Maritime Museum, Cottage Museum, and Judges’ Lodgings Museum. You probably don't know that the Lancashire Witches were convicted and sentenced to death in 1612 in Lancaster Castle courtrooms. The building is awesome and steeped in history.

Things to do in Lancaster


Various types of restaurants around the city offer a range of different cuisines, including a Japanese sushi bar, Mexican, French and Spanish restaurants. Also, you get to enjoy Lancaster's nightlife such as live music at nice pubs and wine bars within the city.

You can do lots of fun activities at the Salt Ayre Sports Centre. This is the largest sports and leisure centre in the Lancaster district and is located half-way between Lancaster and Morecambe.

Daily cruises to the magnificent Lune Aqueduct will definitely be an amazing adventure. As you sail along, you might even see a Kingfisher bird.

Lancaster Castle is owned by The Duchy of Lancaster and many historical, cultural and political incidents have happened at this castle throughout the years.

Thomas Harrison started to design a new Crown Court and Shire Hall at the end of the 18th Century. The shire hall is a beautiful ten-sided room designed by Joseph Gandy in 1802.

You can also see a statue of Eric Morecambe and The Tern Project. Also, there's no better place than the Midland Hotel if you wish to relax and clear your head. You can spend your afternoon drinking tea or visit the Eric Gill artworks.
